The last day to issue a claim in England & Wales under the Limitation Act 1980, for the common claim types.
Last day to issue: Tue, 15 June 2027
6 years from accrual — Limitation Act 1980 s.5.
Fraud, concealment or mistake can postpone the start of the period (Limitation Act 1980 s.32).
The rules applied
- Simple contract: Limitation Act 1980 s.5.
- The day the cause of action accrues is excluded, so the period ends on the anniversary date (Marren v Dawson Bentley & Co Ltd [1961] 2 QB 135).
- Persons under a disability: Limitation Act 1980 s.28. Fraud, concealment and mistake: s.32.
- Special regimes (e.g. Fatal Accidents Act claims, contribution, judicial review, Equality Act, carriage by air or sea) are not covered.
